I seriously doubt you can kill a Cape buffalo with a 9mm pistol round.

If you shoot him in the eye maybe.

Re: Buffalo Bore Ammo

Buffalo Bore made thier name manufacturing rounds at higher thatn SAMMI spec pressure, particularly 45 colts and 45/70s. In 44 mag they make longer over all legnth bullets to take advantage of the long cylinders in certain revolvers, eg Redhawks, Super Redhawks. For some applications, this made some sense for those that do not reload, as modern guns chambered in historic cartridges could handle higher pressure than the old black powder pressures. Longer than SAMMI Spec rounds could shoot heavier bullets at higher velocities.

I wouldn't use them outside of this specific realm. Never been a proponent of trying to make a 38 into a 357 or a 45 into a 454. If you want a larger gun get a bigger caliber. +P+ means you are shooting rounds with higher pressure than your gun was intended to shoot. Early wear.

Agree - guns are pretty inexpensive....want more gun - buy a bigger gun. I can understand a modern gun like a 45-70 by Marlin using something well beyond the old Black Powder SAMMI specs....but I'm no fan of over pressure in my guns. There is a SAMMI spec for a reason = that is the design limit of the gun. Sure there is probably some safety design margin - but why push it.

I agree with what you guys said.
To my understanding there is a marginal difference between +p and +p+
The price of these is decent compared to most +P rounds, and I bought a couple boxes for attic stock among some standard rounds to replace what I've been shooting.
I've also read the military has used +P+ in the Baretta 92's.
I rarely practice with anything more then standard rounds.
I have a 92F with a two stage compensated recoil spring that absorbes the shock of heavy rounds.
I may run a clip or two of +P's on occation at the range, but that's about it.
My favorite round for defense is the 124 +P Golden Saber...they have become non-existant, hence the reason I bought these.

I use the 500 grain FMJ in my Marlin 45/70. I installed a good recoil pad and had it ported. Carry it in the bush in Alaska. Great setup.

One round kill @40 feet on a really pissed off Brown Bear. Entered right below the eyes in the middle. It did not bounce off.

Used the smaller grain soft point on several moose.

Use the 308 rounds for field use in the bolt action as well as the others.

You have the right idea....not a steady diet of these things and you'll be fine.

Remington Golden Saber are some awesome factory rounds. The 9mm in +P is over 400 ft-lbs energy....and the 45 ACP in +P is an astounding 525 ft-lbs energy.......when you stat talking 45 cal + 180 grain + hollow point + north of 500 ft-lbs of energy = one very bad assed autoloading pistol round....that is .357 Magnum country in my book....in fact - even better than 357 mag due to more weight and larger diameter.

I have a hard time thinking of a better man-stopper than a Golden Saber +P 45ACP.

Not to pimp my favorite ammo again but Double Tap has more selection, higher velocities and they all remain safely at or under SAMMI. Considering that they only use premium components, you can't beat the price either. Bx3

I bought some of the Buffalo Bore in .357, and my visual impression of it is that it's sloppy-it doesn't appear to be consistent from round to round. I haven't fired it yet.
